Meeting Night: Thursday 6.15pm to 7.30pm
Beaver Leader: Mrs Sue Edwards
Motto: “Fun and Friends”
We are a thriving Beaver Colony for both boys and girls aged between 6 and 8 years old; the colony has an average membership of 20 boys and girls who attend regularly; we meet on Thursday evenings thorough out the year but we do not run during the local school holidays. We also have many activities that run on weekends throughout the year.
Our programme is based on the Scout movement balanced programme philosophy.
Beavers are our youngest members, and generally meet for an hour per week. They enjoy all that Scouting has to offer; being introduced to outdoor activities, having the opportunity to be creative, explore their local community and experience the excitement of a Beaver Scout sleepover with their friends.
The Beaver Colony is the first and youngest section of the Scout Group. Beaver Scouts are young people aged between 6 and 8 years old. There is core flexibility in the age range: young people can join from age 5¾, and can move to Cubs between age 7½ and 8½. It may sometimes be appropriate to extend this flexibility for young people with additional needs.
There are also Six “Challenge” Awards available for Beaver Scouts to obtain, and they are:
Personal Challenge Award
Teamwork Challenge Award
At our weekly meetings the Beavers towards achieving there “Challenge” Awards; when they have completed all 6 Challenge Awards they are then awarded the Chief Scouts Bronze Award; this is the highest award that a Beaver can earn during there time in the Colony.
The Beavers can also earn many other activity Badges; at the moment there are currently 22 of these and 15 staged activity badges.
Each year the Colony runs at least 1 Colony Sleepover; where Beavers can learn more about traditional scouting skills and also put into practice what they have learnt throughout year.
The Colony Sleepovers are always quite popular with the Beavers so it is always advisable to get your name down as soon as possible.
